Classic
Round Mountain
A compact Fayetteville classic that packs a surprising amount into a shorter ride: low-traffic roads, climbing, a fun descent and a one-lane bridge crossing of Lake Sequoyah.
About Round Mountain
This is a standard shorter loop east of Fayetteville. The core follows Wyman Road into quiet countryside, winding along the Middle Fork of the White River valley before climbing up and over Round Mountain.
After cresting the ridge, the route descends toward the Lake Sequoyah reservoir, and crosses the water on an iconic one-lane bridge. The 1,100 feet of climbing comes mostly in rolling terrain across the Springfield Plateau and a series of ramps over the mountain.
It fits winding roads, climbing, and rural river scenery into a short, traffic-light ride. It's a perfect morning or after-work ride, or for showing someone what the area has to offer.
Notes
- Bridge Repair: The bridge over Lake Sequoyah is set for a 90-day closure from Sept. 1 through about Dec. 1, effectively closing this route for a while.
- Refueling: With no stops for water or supplies on the route, plan to bring a bottle and a snack.
- Hwy 16: After crossing the lake, the route uses about 0.15 miles of the wide Hwy 16 shoulder. Use caution through there.
- Gravel Shortcuts: There are two gravel connectors that each save about a mile, but punctures are common on non-tubeless setups, so use caution.
Note: Routes are provided for planning purposes. Road conditions, traffic and access can change. Ride within your abilities and verify current conditions before leaving.
